IMPORTANT- IF YOU’RE REGISTERED FOR THIS YEAR’S RETREAT, PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW

Thank you for registering for the Antiochian Christian Orthodox Youth weekend retreat at the Antiochian Village in Goulburn.

We look forward to having a fantastic few days together in the name of Christ. Below is some important information below that will help you make the most of your time at the retreat.

General Terms and Conditions

All behaviour is expected to be in-line with Christ’s teachings and this will form the foundation of all rules including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Attendees must be aged 18, on the date of the retreat, or older
  • Attendees are expected to fully participate according to the calendar
  • The organisers (i.e. ACOY) and its representatives, reserve the right to:
    • Change the timetable
    • Change themes/topics
    • Disapprove a registration
    • Ask attendees to leave the retreat site
  • Antiochian Village is a monastery and conference centre in a residential area. This means:
    • Vehicles, attendees, activities must be kept to a reasonable sound limit
    • Lights-out times must be respected

Check-In and Check-Out

  • Upon arrival, please park and proceed to the lecture hall in St. Brigid’s building, where you will be checked-in by an authorised ACOY member
  • You will need a ticket. HAVE YOU RECEIVED YOUR E-MAIL TICKET?
    • If you haven’t or aren’t sure please make sure you check your junk mail
  • If you can’t find your ticket, please contact acoy.nsw@antiochian.org.au

Getting There

  • Unless you have specifically contacted a member of ACOY we anticipate you will make your own way to Antiochian Village
  • If you are expecting a lift, please make sure you have secured a spot in either a bus or car pool ASAP

Packing for the Retreat

  • Your Orthodox Study Bible
  • Bed Sheets
  • Pillow and pillow case
  • Sleeping bag
  • Toiletries
  • Towels
  • Enough clean clothing
  • Sneakers and clothing for outdoor activities (we have a new sports facility now!)
  • Sunscreen
  • Any other items within reason that will make you feel at home
  • Stereos, drums or any other items that will disturb the serenity.
    • Softer instruments such as guitars, harmonicas etc are welcome.
  • Energy drinks or alcohol
  • Any illicit substances

These items are suggestions that will make your stay more comfortable:

  • Service Books- We will have a few copies but if you want your own, you can download your own! Scroll down to the bottom of this page. You can:
    • bring an iPad so you can follow an electronic copy
    • download and print your own booklet
  • Personal insect repellent
  • Appropriate footwear for shower

Food and Drink

  • Retreats during fasting periods will be catered accordingly (i.e. no meat, dairy etc)
  • If you have any dietary requirements, please contact an organiser ASAP
    • We also highly recommend you bring some snacks and, if possible, a ready meal
  • Although we don’t have 5-star chefs we love a good meal and so we will cater the best quality, tastiest, freshest, healthiest and meals to the best of our ability

  • 6.30 pm- Registration / Light Supper (Food on arrival)
  • 7:45 pm- Welcome and briefing of weekend
  • 8:15 pm-10:30 pm- Activities followed by fellowship
  • 10:30 pm- Small Compline
  • 8:30 am- Morning Prayers
  • 9:10 am – 10 am- Breakfast
  • 10:15 am – 11:30 am- Talk 1
    • The importance of Holy Communion: the process of preparation by Fr. Nabil Kachab
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm- Workshop 1
  • 12:20 pm-1:30 pm- Lunch
  • 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm- Talk 2
    • Holy Communion: Preparing the Divine Gifts by His Eminence, Metroplitan Basilios
  • 2:40 pm-3:50 pm- Workshop 2
  • 3:45 pm-4:30 pm- Question and Answer session, led by His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios
  • 4:30 pm-5:30 pm- Large group activity + group photo
  • 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm- Free time (with afternoon tea)
  • 6:30 pm – 7:30m- Great Vespers
  • 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm- Dinner
  • 8:45 pm – 9:45 pm- Activities
  • 8:35 pm- 10 pm – Free time
  • 10:30 pm- 11 pm – Small Compline with Metalepsis (Canon of preparation for Communion)
  • 8:30am – 9:00 am- Prayers before receiving Communion (prior to Matins)
  • 9:00 am – 11:30 am- Matins and Liturgy (Forgiveness Sunday)
  • 11:30 am – 12:45 pm- Big Breakfast/ Room pack up
  • 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm- Talk 3- The mystery of the Sacrament of Communion offered by Christ for our sake and how we can in turn offer our lives to HIM
  • 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm- Large group debrief
  • 2:45 pm – Depart Antiochian Village
